“Take from their wealth a charity by which you purify them and cause them to increase.”
خُذْ مِنْ اَمْوَالِـهِـمْ صَدَقَةً تُطَهِّرُهُـمْ وَتُزَكِّيْـهِـمْ بِـهَا وَصَلِّ عَلَيْـهِـمْ

(Qur'an 9:103)

The Prophet (PBUH) said:

"Charity does not decrease wealth."
مَا نَقَصَتْ صَدَقَةٌ مِنْ مَالٍ

(Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2588)

How Does Zakat Benefit Us?

Allah (SWT) says in the Qur’an:

"The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed [of grain] that sprouts seven ears; in every ear is a hundred grains."
مَّثَلُ ٱلَّذِينَ يُنفِقُونَ أَمْوَٰلَهُمْ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ كَمَثَلِ حَبَّةٍ أَنۢبَتَتْ سَبْعَ سَنَابِلَ فِى كُلِّ سُنبُلَةٍۢ مِّا۟ئَةُ حَبَّةٍۢ

(Qur'an 2:261)

Zakat as a Personal and Collective Blessing

Paying Zakat benefits not only the recipients but also the giver, as it leads to blessings in their remaining wealth. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) emphasized that charity does not reduce wealth, but instead opens doors to divine favor. The act of giving is likened to planting a seed that multiplies beyond imagination, symbolizing the endless rewards of sincere charity.

Who Can Receive Zakat?

The Quran specifies eight categories of people who are eligible to receive Zakat, ensuring that this charity reaches those who truly need it:

The Poor: Those with little or no income.
The Needy: People who struggle to meet their basic needs.
Zakat Collectors: Those who collect and manage Zakat funds.
New Muslims: Individuals who are new to Islam and may need support.
Those in Debt: Individuals burdened with debts they cannot repay.
In the Path of Allah: Those who work for the betterment of society in line with Islamic values.
Stranded Travelers: Those who are far from home and need assistance.

“Zakat expenditures are only for the poor and for the needy and for those employed to collect it...”
إِنَّمَا ٱلصَّدَقَـٰتُ لِلْفُقَرَآءِ وَٱلْمَسَـٰكِينِ وَٱلْعَـٰمِلِينَ عَلَيْهَا

(Qur'an 9:60)

Forms of Zakat

Zakat isn’t limited to monetary support. It can take various forms that make a significant impact:
Providing Food: Offering food to those who struggle to secure meals.
Supporting Education: Funding resources and opportunities for education.
Medical Assistance: Covering medical costs for those in need.
Clothing and Shelter: Providing clothing and shelter for the homeless or those in need.

"Who is it that would loan Allah a goodly loan so He may multiply it for him many times over?"
مَّن ذَا الَّذِي يُقْرِضُ اللَّهَ قَرْضًا حَسَنًا فَيُضَاعِفَهُ لَهُ أَضْعَافًا كَثِيرَةً

(Qur'an 2:245)
